Local, Urban, Regional, Provincial and Island Governments

Governments below the national level and those with clear geographical boundaries face a number of challenges and are provided with a number of opportunities. The challenges relate to the relations with the national government and with other regions. The opportunities relate to broader revenue-generation methods. Smaller-scale economies are easier to organize and form around an optimal currency area, which helps to explain why island economies like Singapore can be designed to perform so well.

Local Urban Regional Island Economic and Social Development

We assist governments at these levels to identify and provide incentives for economic, environmental and social development.

Targetted Monetary Circulation Systems

Special regions have the opportunity to develop specialized services, products and industries. The key to the development and sustainability of these products is to ensure that money flows through them regularly as a normal function of the economy.

Tax-Anticipation Currencies

These currencies mobilize the expected growth in economic activity realized through tax revenue. A portion of expected tax revenues can be issued in advance to boost the economy. There are many examples of this system in North America, Europe and most recently in Argentina.

Tourism Area Currency Systems

Tourism revenues often drain out of the tourist areas, resulting in a number of problems that can result in a downturn in tourism. These systems help keep tourism revenues circulating in the tourism areas. Although similar currencies are often managed by tourism resorts so that visitors do not need to carry cash, this currency serves the broader economic area.

Inflation & Currency Stabilisation Systems

Localized fluctuations in currency stability can have a negative effect on the local economy. We have developed systems for reducing inflation while increasing the money supply and stablizing the local value of the currency.

National Governments

National governments find themselves in a rapidly changing economic and political environment. The rise of supranational currencies and trading areas reduce the influence of national governments, while the demands from governments below grow louder. A highly mobile international economic system can bring on rapid economic crises.

Issues related to Dual and Multiple National Currency Contexts

Inflation and devaluation of the national currency can result in increased competition with stronger currencies. Some governments have to deal with unofficial second currencies, black and grey markets and large volumes of foreign currency remittances in order to turn disadvantage to advantage.

Consumer-level Carbon Credit Trading Systems

As investment and trading of carbon credits grows, so do the opportunities to engage citizens in increasing participation and compliance with output reduction programs that can be of great benefit to national and regional economies and their environments, with beneficial social side-effects.

Dual - Multiple Currency Contexts

Accepting the existence of Dual and Multiple Currencies can be of benefit to a national economy, especially one that is recovering from crisis and is dependent on foreign investment and involvement in the economy. Allowing and even encouraging trade in two or multiple currencies encourages foreigners to invest in a new country without losing their income through currency exchanges.

Multilateral Development, Aid and Non-Profit Organizations

Aid handouts are not working to achieve the Millenium Development Goals. People need to be given the incentive to develop on their own as individuals, communities and countries. Handouts of money quickly drain away to places where they are not needed.

Aid Distribution Control Systems

Recent natural disasters have demonstrated problems with aid distribution and the corruption that results. Control systems such as Vouchers can reduce the flow of money and goods to areas where they are not needed, strengthening the recovery effort.

Innovative Micro-Finance Programs

For microfinance to really work, much more than capital is needed. Education in basic math and business management are key, but not always a part of microfinance programs. Borrowers need to learn how to save the money they earn, not just spend and repay their loans. Microfinance programs need to be oriented towards developing a dynamic local economy, not just financing the development of a single industry.

Revolving Loan Fund Programs

These programs, also known as ROSCA bring the community together to generate their own capital for loans, making them a key component to any internally-driven (endogenous) development program.

Community Reciprocal Exchange and Community Cooperation Systems

These mutual aid systems encourage cooperation and reciprocation, the building blocks of peaceful and tolerant community life. When a community can cooperate together as a self-help group to identify and achieve their goals, then the work of an aid or development organization is nearly done.

Participatory Planning and Budgetting

Participatory planning and budgetting puts the tools of development into the hands of the community and helps to ensure the involvement and sustainability of any program.

Economic Literacy, Entrepreneurialism, Small Business Mgmt and Accounting

Together, these courses are the foundation of an active economy.

Warehouse Receipts & Trade Finance Systems

Warehouse Receipts and other Trade Finance Systems are tools for monetising and capitalising commodities and products.

Micro-Small-Medium Enterprises and Enterprise Clusters - Networks

Micro, small and medium enterprise networks are quickly proving themselves to be capable of overcoming the disadvantages of scale. However, these networks have yet to graduate to the level of the networked corporation which operates its own internal economic system to reduce costs and expenses while maintaining a market system between the units. A Cluster Currency System is this internal economic system for micro, small and medium enterprises.

Capital Generation Systems

A Revolving Savings and Credit Association for business and an enterprise initiatives fund are can reduce risk and therefore interest rates on loans. There is a large amount of capital available in the pockets of consumers.

Inter-Trading Systems

The outputs of one business can be the inputs to another business. Reducing waste is an important component of increasing efficiency.

Value - Supply Chain Systems

When producers, packagers, marketers, distributors and retailers work together, great things can be achieved across the board.

Enterprise Cluster Systems

The Mondragon Cooperative in Spain is a great example of the many ways of linking enterprises together in a regional area.

Market Loyalty Systems

Consumer Loyalty Systems have exploded in recent years, but they have not reached their full potential. We take the concept and point it towards economic development.

Buy Local Incentive Programs

It can be much more than stickers and TV commercials.

IOU & Debt-Swap Exchange Systems

A network of reciprocal obligations has the power to keep businesses working until the economy has recovered.

Enterprise Cluster Internal Currency - Exchange Systems

Enteprise clusters that use only the national currency are missing out on the many advantages of linking their balance sheets together through an Enterprise Cluster Currency System.

Community - Based & Social - Economic - Environmental Organizations

As funding for many efforts reduces and concentrates into the hands of the few, many NGOs are looking to private investment and public-private partnerships to achieve their goals. There are many more ways of generating funds than writing proposals.

Scrip & Community-Based Fundraising

If people support what you do, then business will too. Mobilize the power of both through these programs.

Community Cooperation Systems

Sometimes it takes more than an organization to complete a task. Sometimes people won't help unless they know that others are also pulling their share of the load. We help make it fair for everyone.

Non-Monetary Exchange Systems

Why spend money when you don't need to?

Token Currency Systems

Rewarding good behaviour is the key of the token currency. A reward at the end of the day, week, month or year can go a long way to changing the future.

Commercial Barter - Trade Systems

The theory of network economies is changing rapidly. While commercial barter-trade exchange systems are pioneers in developing this theory, many systems risk being left behind by new advancements in theory and technology.

Exchange Enhancement Incentive Programs

Are some parts of the network flagging while others are booming? We can help bring them back into action.

System Analysis & Troubleshooting

Are the systems running inefficiently, or are there specific problems to solve?

Transaction Platform Technology Firms

Building great new technologies are one thing. Deploying them is altogether something else.

Innovative Prototype Program Designs

We can help to deploy your technology to test your systems and achieve other deployment goals at the same time.

Credit Unions & Small-Scale Banks

Many Credit Unions and local Banks have seen what happens when they become the center of enterprise development in their service areas: they become the center of economic development as well.

Capital Generation Systems

Our Community Development Voucher programs have proven themselves to generate the capital needed to start micro and small enterprises.

Inter-Trading Systems

Businesses that trade with each other benefit from belonging to your network

Member - Member Exchange Systems

People that trade with each other in your network become businesses that trade with each other in your network.

Innovative Microfinance Programs

It is not only about trade, it is about exchange. Our systems do both.

Employee Groups, Unions, Worker's Mutual Aid Societies

Working for the company or cooperative is one thing, working for each other is something else. We are all able to do much more than what we do in our jobs.

Economic Solidarity Systems

Find the social capital in your network and turn it into real wealth for your members.

Social-Economic Mutual Aid Systems

Make sure that everyone is looked after by encouraging them to look after each other.

University Student Organizations and Cooperatives, University Services

Students spend a fortune, small or large, earning their degrees. Give a little back and your organization can earn a lot more. University is a great place to try new things, like new economic systems that work.

Pre-Paid Voucher Systems

Students cannot always run to the ATM to get money when they need to buy something. Cards or mobile phones, there are many ways to pay.

Student Exchange -Teaching systems

Knowledge exchange benefits all students.

Built Environment

The research proves that people prefer to live in a livable community. Livable communities are lively, active, diverse and open. Safe communities are ones where people keep an eye on each other. Wealthy communities are ones that trade with each other.

Urban and Suburban Housing, Neighbourhood & Community Development

Help get people out of their homes and from behind their walls and into the community.

Traditional Neighbourhood Development

Increasing horizontal density in a way that doesn't result in the problems often associated with vertical density. Help make neighbourhoods the way they used to be.

Urban Social and Economic Redevelopment

The city is changing all the time. There are those parts that are changing more than others.

Low-Income and Slum Community Regeneration

These parts of the city don't have to be as bad as they appear. A little dignity, stability and self-confidence can go a very long way.
